The Áfangi sweater (meaning journey or stage) is a sporty outdoor garment that keeps you warm even when the temperature drops below zero. The model is still feminine and fitted.
Áfangi is made of double Plötulop, but with small needles, so the structure is quite dense and windproof. The back of the sweater is slightly longer, so it covers the back better when hiking, skiing or riding, for example. You can also use Lettlop simple, the end result is lighter and not as weatherproof, but warm for sure.

There are two versions of this sweater; the original version uses an icord start, shortened layers, intarsia technique and has a stand-up collar that is open at the front. The lighter version is similar to most Icelandic sweaters without the extra frills. You can also combine parts of these two versions according to your own taste and skill.

Both versions are quick to knit. As with many Icelandic sweaters, the sleeves are knitted first, followed by the body, and the yoke is the last to tie everything together into a finished garment. You will have no trouble knitting this pattern!

Enjoyable knitting moments!

MATERIALS, SIZES AND ACCESSORIES
Istex Plötulopi 100g/300m double and 80 cm circular needles and double pointed needles 4.5 and 6.5 mm or depending on the craft. More detailed materials can be found in the attached pictures.

Note the density of the instructions is 18 s / 10 cm, ensure the handwriting by knitting closed stockinette stitch. Note Be careful with the knitting density, because the difference of even a couple of stitches affects not only the width of the work but also e.g. to the height of the arch!
